Troppo Io was born from a simple yet vital gesture: putting onto paper the very words we need to hear. Behind the project is Sara Marino Lauria, a Roman illustrator born in 1997. Having abandoned drawing in kindergarten, she rediscovered it as an adult – only to realize that a blank page was all she ever needed to find her true voice.
Troppo Io isn’t rooted in academic training, but in a raw, deeply personal evolution. After earning her degree and landing a marketing job in Milan, Sara realized she was profoundly unhappy. It was through psychotherapy that she began to question her path and rediscovered drawing as a tool for radical self-listening.
From that point on, everything shifted.
Drawing became a way to anchor what she was learning, to remember it, and to share it. Her illustrations naturally transformed into micro-messages of universal comfort: words born as self-reminders that ended up speaking to thousands. Over time, Troppo Io has grown into a vibrant, active community – a safe space where people see their inner worlds reflected and feel a little less alone.
Her style is instantly recognizable: thick black lines, pastel palettes, and intentionally simple, almost childlike shapes. It is an aesthetic that is only seemingly imperfect – in reality, it is a deliberate artistic choice. Sara draws today exactly as she did as a little girl, finding in that very simplicity an authentic, direct, and completely unfiltered space.
“Of course I’m going to make it, but not without a good little cry first :)”
Often conceived as stickers, her illustrations represent the project’s most defining format. They speak with profound gentleness and immediacy: short phrases, minimalist imagery, and raw thoughts that hit straight to the heart without any pretension. Through everyday objects, she gives a voice to shared but complex emotions, insecurities, personal growth, the need to be heard, and self-love.
“For me, illustration is about healing my inner child. It’s how I take care of her, but at the same time, how I take care of my adult self. It stems from therapy, but it is therapy itself—both personal and collective. It is healing. It’s becoming a child again.”
In just a few years, this unique visual language has built a thriving community of over 110,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok, establishing Troppo Io as one of the most engaged platforms in the Italian illustration scene. This massive appeal has paved the way for high-profile collaborations with major publishers, brands, and non-profits, including Mondadori (designing the cover and interiors for the hit book “Come sopravvivere alla prima crush” and its upcoming sequel), La Casa De Las Carcasas (custom phone cases and stickers sold nationwide), and MURO Productions (crafting official merchandise for artists at the iconic Sanremo Music Festival), alongside partnerships with Alpitour Villaggi Bravo, Komen Italia, and Animenta.
Alongside these collaborations, the project thrives through an independent shop, where stickers, prints, and illustrated goods act as a tangible, physical extension of her philosophy.
Meanwhile, Sara continues to push her boundaries by experimenting with analog mediums like watercolor, never losing sight of her core mission: translating complex human emotions into simple, necessary images.
