Paolo Castaldi is an artist driven by his passion for illustration, empathy and curiosity. His essential stroke tells stories that reflect society, changes, struggles and injustices, pushing art out of the traditional comfort zone. Music, sports and the desire to express himself through illustration are the beating heart of his creativity.
Figure out who you want to be, but more importantly, figure out who you are not and never will be.
Paul is defined by his intention in drawing; he seeks delicacy and essentiality. He mainly uses graphite, pencils and pastels, but also explores digital drawing as an additional tool. His goal is to make atmospheres perceived rather than made explicit, with a style constantly evolving toward essentiality, until two lines are enough to tell everything.
For Paul, illustration is the other side of himself, a way of expression in which he does not hide in insecurity but finds his voice. Pencils and paper have become a physical part of him, a vital organ. His personal motto reflects his search for identity: “Figure out who you want to be, but more importantly, figure out who you are not and never will be.” And he shares the wisdom of Joe Kubert: “I don’t care how good you are at drawing, if you’re not telling me something you’re in the wrong business.”
