Gio Alberti is an illustrator from Trieste who combines precision in his drawings with subtle irony and a profound narrative sensibility. Thoughtful and multifaceted, he finds the lifeblood of his creative process in his curiosity and ability to observe the world.
Gio Alberti loves to translate fiction and current affairs into images, transforming words into evocative visions dense with atmosphere. At the same time, he is fascinated by the communicative power of advertising, the dynamism of fashion and the poetry contained in interiors and urban spaces, which he reinterprets with line and colour.
Each of his works is born as a silent dialogue between what he sees and what he imagines.
“An illustration is an image that brings us closer to content, adding meaning and soul. The content can be anything, from an economics treatise to lyric poetry, from the chronicle of a boxing match to the poster for an arthouse film, right up to a pattern or image for packaging. The most important thing is to be in tune with the spirit of the brief and understand it as well as possible. Once this is done, more or less immediately, the right image comes to mind.”
His style, rooted in ink drawing and enriched by careful and calibrated digital colouring, blends realism and metaphysical vision, with a touch of irony that makes each panel recognisable. He sometimes works directly on an iPad, but always maintains that tactile connection with the mark that comes from paper.
He believes in beauty as a silent and necessary force, and it is no coincidence that he likes to quote Oscar Wilde: “The artist is the creator of beautiful things.”
